Set Name: | Fate Reforged |
Overview: |
In Fate Reforged, the Planeswalker Sarkhan Vol travels back in time to save the great Planeswalker-dragon, Ugin. Sarkhan goes back 1,280 years and discovers a time when the clans do not war against each other, but have rallied together to stave off the predations of the dragons. Each clan still reveres a particular aspect of dragonkind, epitomized by one of the Legendary Dragonlords. In this timeline, the Abzan Houses are led by Daghatar the Adamant and venerate the green/white Dragonlord Dromoka. The green/white mechanic in this set is Bolster, an ability which puts +1/+1 counters on the creature you control with the least toughness. The Jeskai Way is led by Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest, and reveres the Blue/White Dragonlord Ojutai, Soul of Winter. The prowess mechanic returns from Khans of Tarkir, granting creatures +1/+1 until end of turn whenever you cast an instant or sorcery. The Sultai Brood is now led by Tasigur, the Golden Fang. Their Dragonlord is the Blue/Black Silumgar, the Drifting Death and their mechanic is once again Delve, which reduces the casting cost of cards by exiling cards from your graveyard. Alesha, Who Smiles at Death is the leader of the Mardu Horde, who revere Kolaghan, the Storm’s Fury. Their mechanic is Dash, which is an alternate casting cost for creatures that gives them haste but returns them to their owner’s hand at end of turn. Atarka Worldrender is the Red/Green Dragonlord venerated by the Temur Frontier. Yasova Dragonclaw leads the clan, whose mechanic remains Ferocious, which rewards you for controlling a creature with power four or greater. Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is the first colorless Planeswalker ever printed and it immediately became a staple of artifact ramp decks and anything that can produce lots of colorless mana quickly. Monastery Mentor found instant inclusion in spell dense Legacy and Vintage decks. It is a mana efficient threat that can quickly produce an army of lethal Monk tokens. |
